Bayer CropScience withdraws from Growing GM Maize in UK
Commenting on today's announcement by Bayer CropScience, Michael Meacher said:
"The biotech companies are now hoist on their own petard. They said there would be little or no contamination from GM crops, but now that campaigners have forced the Government to make GM companies financially liable for contamination they cause, they are backing out because no insurance company will insure them and they themselves wont take the risk.
Fortunately for the Government, it has been saved from itself, and the electoral furore which would have followed their licensing of GM crops."
