MP Supports Juggling Carers During Carers Week
Clwyd South MP, MARTYN JONES is supporting Carers Week and is backing shopworkers' union Usdaw's campaign for better rights for workers with caring responsibilities.
"Over 9,000 working carers in Clwyd South make a massive contribution to society. It is right we give them as much support as possible." said, Martyn Jones MP.
"Working carers do a fantastic job of juggling their home life, their working life and their caring responsibilities. Many of them also have to balance their parental duties.
“I am campaigning with Usdaw to promote the contribution that working carers make and to campaign for improved rights and benefits.
“We must recognise that people who take on these responsibilities are contributing millions to the UK economy and it is incumbent upon us to ensure that the right support is available to them.
“I am campaigning for a better deal for carers.”
Usdaw represents over 330,000 UK workers, many of whom work in retail. The union’s major campaign this year is supporting Parents and Carers, which seeks to win improved rights and benefits for workers with parental and caring responsibilities.
Usdaw General Secretary, John Hannett said:
“We are delighted to have the support of Martyn Jones MP.
“This campaign is very important to many of our members who find it extremely difficult to balance their different responsibilities. We know that because our members tell us that work/life balance is one of the most important issues they face.
“Having the support of MPs like Martyn Jones helps when we lobby Government for a better deal, but we are also neogitating with local employers for improved rights at work for parents and carers.”
