Martyn Jones
'The right way ahead for Wales' - says Welsh Chairman
A senior Labour MP, has welcomed the response of the Welsh Labour Party to the Richard Commission.
MARTYN JONES MP (Clwyd South) who is Chairman of the Welsh Affairs Committee in the House of Commons, was commenting following publication this morning of the Welsh Labour policy document, titled 'BETTER GOVERNANCE FOR WALES'
Commenting on the document, MARTYN JONES MP said:
"What the Labour Party is proposing is an eminently sensible and considered way forward, that I believe the people of Wales will support.
"The document concludes that we should continue with and develop, the successful joint-working relationship that currently exists between the National Assembly and Westminster.
"I welcome the move towards more secondary legislation and building on the success of joint-working between Cardiff and London that has developed over the past five years.
"As Chairman of the Welsh Affairs in the Commons, I know from first-hand experience, that the current joint-working arrangements have been a huge success. Together with Assembly members, we have held joint-evidence and consultation sessions in both London and Cardiff on the important matters that effect Wales.
"I believe the Labour Party's approach of organic growth for the Assembly, and reform of the electoral system, will be regarded by the people of Wales as the best way forward."
