Prescriptions Will Not Be An Expense In Wales Says MP
The Welsh Assembly has lowered the price of prescription medications on its path to providing free prescription medications for all.
April 1st marked a £1 price reduction in the cost of prescription medication for everyone in Wales. For those with chronic illness, like asthma, the cost of pre-paid certificates were also reduced to £20.93 for four months and £57.46 for a year.
Already, prescriptions are free for those under the age of twenty-five. This most recent prescription price cut is evidence of progress being achieved by the Labour Welsh Assembly Government that wants everyone to receive free prescription medication by the next Assembly election in 2007.
Commenting on the Assembly’s progress, Mr. Jones said:
“Worrying about paying for prescription medications should not be a concern for people in Wales, especially people with chronic illness who are in constant need of medications. I am committed to ensuring that the Welsh Assembly achieves its target of cost-free prescription medications.
“It is an inexcusable injustice for any person to go without needed prescription medication or to have to sacrifice one expense for another. Prescription medication will not be an expense in Wales.”
