Tory Donation Gaffe  - Michael Howard Begs Labour MP For Cash!

A bemused senior Labour MP has been asked to donate £5000 (five thousand pounds) towards the CONSERVATIVE PARTY general election campaign.

MARTYN JONES MP (Clwyd South)
received the begging letter  - signed by Tory Leader Michael Howard - asking if he "could make a financial contribution" towards Conservative Party election costs.

Mr Howard's letter (in English only) went on to say:

"I hope you understand the urgency and importance of extra donations at this crucial time. I hope you will give generously to both us and your local (Conservative) Association."

Commenting on the Tory Leader's gaffe, MARTYN JONES MP said:

"Only two weeks ago I put out a statement warning my constituents against postal scams and rip-off artists such as I have received. Little did I think I would be a victim of this so soon at the hands of Michael Howard!"

"There is little wonder the Tories are in need of funds if they are writing to Labour MPs begging for money. They could have saved themselves the cost of a stamp by not sending this letter to me.

"If they cannot run their campaign without this kind of gaffe, how on earth do they expect to run the country?

"Strangely in his letter, Mr Howard did not remind voters that he was the man who brought us the Poll Tax; that he was the man responsible for one million job losses; that he was the man who cut police numbers by a thousand and that he called the minimum wage 'extreme and absurd'. I wonder why?

"He may like to forget his role in during the Thatcher Years - but the voters do not.

"Needless to say, I will not be sending any money to the Tories, and I would urge everyone to be on their guard when the begging letter from Mr Howard drops through their letterbox. If people do receive this mailshot, I would urge them to dispose of it in a responsible manner, by using their local authority's paper re-cycling facilities."
