Pensioners Are Not Claiming Council Tax Benefits – Martyn Jones Backs New Campaign To Raise Awareness
THOUSANDS of pensioners in Clwyd South could be missing out on massive savings on their council tax by failing to apply for council tax benefits, according to local MP Martyn Jones
Now a new campaign, which will see adverts across the local press, aims to encourage the tens of thousands of pensioners in the constituency to take advantage of the available benefits which could see substantial average savings of over £400 on their bills.
Recent figures show that up to four out of ten pensioners nationwide fail to apply for Council Tax Benefit, leaving a phenomenal three quarters of a billion pounds unclaimed each year.
Less than half of all home-owners, many of whom are pensioners, are claiming the money they are entitled to and some pensioners are even missing out on a 100 per cent rebate.
On top they may be due arrears back to last January, bringing a possible extra cash windfall.
“We really hope that this new drive to raise awareness will ensure that those who are entitled to such tax benefits get the relief they deserve,” said Mr Jones.
“If you are entitled to council tax benefit the I want you to get every penny owed to you. I see no reason whty my constiuents should pay more than they need to. If you are in doubt as to whether you qualify, there’s no harm in checking - contact your County Council to see if you are entitled.”
