Martyn Jones MP on the hunt for a local hero
Martyn Jones, MP for Clwyd South is urging his local constituents to have no hesitation in nominating their local heroes for recognition through the Nationwide Awards for Voluntary Endeavour.
These awards, organised by the Nationwide Building Society, in association with the National Council for Voluntary Organisations and the Newspaper Society, are designed to reward and publicly recognise local heroes whose voluntary work, community action and spirit has made a real difference to people’s lives.
Commenting on the awards, Martyn Jones said:
“2005 is the year of the volunteer, and so it’s more important than ever to make sure that we recognise the achievements within our community.
“Volunteering doesn’t just add to our economy, it provides an important support for the community and a real difference to people’s lives.
“More often than not, it’s the individual that is behind the best work and I hope that we as a community can seek out our local heroes and give them the respect they deserve – these awards are a perfect opportunity.”
Anyone wishing to nominate someone who they believe deserves an award can pick up a leaflet containing a nomination form from their local branch of Nationwide Building Society, or the local public library. On-line nominations can also be made via www.nationwide.co.uk/about_nationwide/community_relations/awards/nom_form.asp
