Martyn Jones MP: "We Can Make Clwyd South Clean And Safe"

Martyn Jones welcomes laws to make communities cleaner in Queen’s Speech

A year after backing new laws to tackle anti-social behaviour MARTYN JONES MP for Clwyd South is backing plans to take the battle against litter, graffiti, and vandalism to the next level.

Martyn Jones MP said:

”Last year I backed the tough measures of the Anti-Social Behaviour Act.  Since then, I’ve seen Anti-Social Behaviour Orders and Dispersal Orders make a real difference in protecting our community.

“Now I want to make sure we pass new laws in Westminster that help the police and community groups here in Clwyd South win the battle against litter, graffiti and vandalism.

“The new laws proposed in the Queen’s Speech will make a real difference.

“I’m supporting proposals for on the spot, “fixed penalty” fines for anti-social offences like graffiti, fly-posting and vandalism. I want to see Community Support Officers, Community Wardens and Park Wardens working for Wrexham and Denbighshire councils, given the power to issue the on-the-spot fines to litter louts and vandals.

“I’m also backing plans to give our local council powers to remove abandoned vehicles quickly, without having to wait weeks and weeks before being able to take action.

“I want to see the council and police given powers to remove abandoned vehicles to a safe location quickly and speedily. If an owner wishes to claim their vehicle back, they can then contact the council to do so.

“After all, it’s ludicrous that if you park in the wrong space you can be towed within 24 hours, but if you abandon your vehicle in a residential street it has to be a risk to public health before the council can act immediately.

“Finally, I’m backing laws that will strengthen neighbourhood policing by freeing up officers for front line duties – by setting up a serious crime agency to tackle organised crime and give Community Support Officers powers to tackle low level crime and anti-social behaviour.

“These new ideas, together with the laws we’ve passed over the last year and the hard work of our police will help to make our streets safer, more secure places to live. That’s the kind of law I want to see passed- and I want the government to make the resources available to make it happen”.
