Welsh Labour Dropping Hospital Wait Time
Martyn Jones, MP for Clwyd South highlights the recent reduction in the number of people waiting for hospital operations.
The month of February showed a big decrease in the number of people waiting for an operation in hospital.
Between January 2005 and the end of February, the number of people waiting 18 months or more for an operation reduced by 41.3 percent and those waiting twelve months or more reduced by 31.5 percent.
The reduction is said to be a result of innovative health policies introduced by the Welsh Assembly—policies which focus on the needs of patients, provide a record amount of funding and modernise the NHS.
The Welsh Labour Government has also found success in reducing the longest wait periods through its Second Offer Guarantee scheme. The purpose of the scheme is to treat patients more quickly by managing capacity in the NHS in Wales and to utilize extra capacity in the private sector when necessary.
Commenting on the improvement of the NHS in Wales, Mr. Jones said:
“The Welsh Assembly is proving itself loyal to the people of Wales. We have focused on health policies that will provide only the best and most efficient services for the country. This decrease in hospital wait time is a great start to show what Welsh Labour can and will do for the NHS in Wales.”
