National Audit Office Statistics released today show that manufacturing jobs have fallen by 104,000 to 3.24 million. This is the lowest figure since records began in 1978.
Commenting, Liberal Democrat Shadow Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, Malcolm Bruce MP, said:
“Today’s figures are a stark reminder that the fortunes of British manufacturing are in relentless decline. The number of jobs being lost in the British manufacturing sector under Labour strips the gloss from their employment record.
“If this trend is not reversed, the fundamental imbalance at the heart of the British economy will remain.”
