Rt Hon John Redwood
Biography

John Redwood was first elected as Member of Parliament for Wokingham in 1987, and was re-elected in 1992, 1997 and 2001. Mr Redwood has two children and  lives in the Wokingham District.

John has been a very active and hard working MP, handling hundreds of constituency cases and thousands of letters and emails each year. He is well known in Wokingham for his helpful and caring approach to people and their problems, just as he is well known nationally for his clear views and his consistency in campaigning for the things he believes in.

He has been a County Councillor, a pension fund manager, the Chairman of a Stock Exchange quoted industrial company, policy adviser to Margaret Thatcher when Prime Minister, and a non-executive director of several businesses. He was a Cabinet and Shadow Cabinet Minister in three different departments. He is best known for his campaigns to save the pound, and to save the greenfields of Wokingham from too much development.

In September 2004 John Redwood became the Shadow Secretary of State for Deregulation. In 2005 he was appointed by David Cameron to head the Conservative Party’s Policy Review on Economic Competitiveness.

An author and regular broadcaster, John can often be seen or heard on national and local TV and radio. He is happiest out on the doorsteps of Wokingham listening to constituents, whether there is an election or not. He likes to make sure that Wokingham's voice is heard.

John is keen on cricket and water sports in his spare time, and is a regular member of the Lords and Commons Cricket team.
