Friends of Weston Playhouse visit the Houses of Parliament

Weston-super-Mare MP John Penrose met with Friends of Weston Playhouse last Friday before they travelled up to London for a tour of the Houses of Parliament.

Normally Mr Penrose meets groups in Westminster itself but, since the Friends were travelling on a Friday, he saw them off from Weston before beginning his normal Friday and weekend programme of meetings with concerned residents and local groups. Last Friday his appointments included a visit to Baytree Community Special School where he met with pupils and teachers as well as being taken on tour of the school by the new Headteacher, Mr Phil McKinnie. In the evening the Town’s MP also joined a meeting of the Worlebury Resident’s Association where he spoke about the Severn Barrage.

Mr Penrose said: “It was fantastic to meet with the Friends of the Playhouse. They do an excellent job in keeping Weston’s Playhouse operating to a high standard, setting the town apart from other seaside towns with similar theatres.”

Speaking of his other engagements of the day, Mr Penrose said: “I was thrilled to be invited to Baytree School and see the excellent work they are doing. The teachers and staff provide the care and support that young people with severe and multiple learning difficulties need. It's a hugely challenging and rewarding job, and their dedication is amazing."

“Worlebury Residents' Association's enthusiasm to hear about the most recent developments on the Severn Brarrage was also reassuring. No matter which technology is used for the project it will have a massive impact on Weston-super-Mare and the South West as a whole, so local involvement is crucial to make sure the Government take a balanced and transparent approach.”
