John spends as much of his time in the constituency as possible, meeting constituents and helping them with local issues. The rest of his time is spent in London in the House of Commons acting as Weston’s voice in Westminster.
Since being elected in 2005, John has served on the Work and Pensions Select Committee which examines the expenditure, administration and policy of the Department for Work and Pensions and its associated public bodies. In 2006 he was appointed Private Parliamentary Secretary to the Rt Hon Oliver Letwin MP, Chairman of the Conservative Party’s Policy Review. He was also appointed Joint Chairman of the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Further Education & Lifelong Learning. Its key role is to promote and develop the interests of further education, adult learning and skills sectors and to advise government ministers on matters of concern to these sectors.
