Primary school children are star winners in MPs Christmas card competition
14 December 2007
Primary school winners and runners’ up in a Christmas card competition - set by Weston MP John Penrose to feature artwork from local children in his own personal 2007 Christmas card - get together to see the card in print and collect their prizes and certificates from the MP.
More than 340 children from primary schools across North Somerset entered the MPs Christmas card competition, which asked for original card designs themed on the seaside town of Weston.
A total of ten designs by primary school children are featured on the MPs card – one on the front and nine more on the back – with a limited print run of 500.
Competition categories for the competition were divided into primary school Key Stages, KS1 and KS2.
Outright winner of the competition was KS2 pupil, Hannah Williams of Christ Church
Primary School in Baker Street, Weston. Hannah’s card design, depicting Weston’s Grand Pier, lollypops and ice-cream cornets, fronts the MPs Christmas card. KS1 winner, Luke Pincombe from Keystoke Primary School, has his card featured too.
Entries from another eight children from different schools were judged as Highly Commended and those young artists, whose designs are also printed on the MPs Christmas card, will join the party at 9.15a.m. on Friday, December 14 at Weston’s Sovereign Centre.
Highly commended entries are from: Samantha Partington, Bournville Junior School; Holly Cadman, Blagdon Primary School, Tabatha Changeur, Westhaven School; Bethaney Hall, Heron’s Moor School; Georgina Morgan, Becket Primary School; Marilla Willmot, Winscombe Woodborough Primary School; Joe Murphy, Mead Vale School; Brennan James Brown, St. Martins School.
Both Key Stage 1 & 2 winners, Hannah Williams and Luke Pincombe, will be treated to a trip to the Houses of Parliament in London next year, with their families, where they will go on a tour and have tea with MP John Penrose.
Every child who entered the MPs competition will be presented with a certificate from their MP at an assembly at their school next year. Each school will also receive an educational pack about the Houses of Parliament, its purpose and its history.
