John Austin MP Backs Local Communities to Save Energy This Week

John Austin MP for Erith & Thamesmead has urged local communities in the area to play their part in supporting the Energy Saving Trust’s Energy Saving Week (22nd-28th October).  He urged local constituents to visit the Energy Saving Trust’s website to find out what simple steps they could take to save energy in the home, cutting energy bills and protecting the environment at the same time.

John Austin MP said:
“I applaud the Energy Saving Trust for organising Energy Saving Week, to highlight the impact that wasting energy can have on the energy bills of hard working local people and the environment.

“I think that the work of the Energy Saving Trust, in partnership with organisations such as the Women’s Institute, the Royal Mail and local faith groups, in encouraging their particular communities to work to improve energy efficiency, is a great way of bringing local people together to play their part in this important effort.

As the representative of all the communities of Erith & Thamesmead in the House of Commons, I will also be making sure I do my bit by taking simple steps like switching appliances off at the socket rather than leaving them on stand by, and using low energy light bulbs to improve energy efficiency in my home.”

John Austin added:
“In Energy Saving Week, I am now urging all of my constituents and local communities to see what they can do to save energy.  To find out about some simple and cheap ideas, you can contact the Energy Saving Trust on 0800 512 012 or visit www.energysavingtrust.org.uk
