MP SERVES UP CHRISTMAS DINNER

Ninety Pensioners sat down to a full Christmas Dinner with all the trimmings on Saturday night at the Abbey Wood Community Centre, Knee Hill and were served by local volunteers including their MP, John Austin and the Mayor of Greenwich, Cllr Harpinder Singh and local vicars. They were also entertained by a Steel Band from the Bexley Academy of Music.
John Austin said: “I have been attending this event almost every year since I was Mayor of Greenwich in 1987. All of the food is prepared, cooked and provided by volunteers from the Abbey Wood Community Group and is one of the best nights of the year. Everybody leaves with a prize, all donated by members of the Community group and local traders. A lot of planning and hard work goes into it an it shows real community spirit.”
