MP BACKS ARCHWAY PROJECT

John Austin is pictured at the project with Thamesmead Councillor, Sandra Bauer, and Project Administrator, Penny Watts.

Local MP John Austin has welcomed the support being given to the Archway Project and thanked Trust Thamesmead for the support they have given to enable to project to continue.  John Austin visited the project recently on its 25th Anniversary and said: “This is an excellent project providing skills training for young people but also helping to build their self confidence and self respect.  This is the kind of project that shows the importance in investing in young people.”

“Many of these young people have been failed by the education system, many have low self-esteem when they come to the project.  Many are at risk of offending or getting drawn into anti-social behaviour.   This project gives them support, training and respect.  Unfortunately it has experienced some funding and other difficulties in recent years.  I want to thank Trust Thamesmead for the support they have given during these difficulties and welcome the funding package and support from Greenwich and Bexley Councils and various Charities which will ensure the continuation of this project.  But above all I want to thank the dedicated staff and volunteers associated with the project.”
