The London Borough of Bexley has been named as one of the top ten local authorities to reach the Sure Start Children's Centres target.
Together for Children, a partnership of leading children's services working with the Department for Children, Schools and Families to support the development of Children's Centres across England, released the names of the top ten authorities earlier this month.
"Our Children's Centres programme has been a real success," says Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Children's Services, Cllr Teresa O'Neill.
"We have been able to deliver five excellent children's centres that focus on the needs of local families with the help of our partners in schools, healthcare and the voluntary sector. These centres provide an opportunity for Bexley children to get the best possible start in life as they deserve.
"We are looking to open seven more centres in the borough this year and we hope they will be equally successful but I am pleased that the progress and hard work of everyone involved has been recognised."
Bexley's Children's Centres bring together services for children from birth to five years. Each centre provides a range of information and advice on childcare and health, training and family support, as well as running fun activities, creating a one-stop shop for parents and carers. Some of the centres have nurseries offering full day care facilities.
