AUSTIN WELCOMES SOME BUS IMPROVEMENTS BUT EXPRESSES CONCERN ABOUT ROUTES 99 AND 469

Local MP, John Austin has written to Transport for London expressing concern about changes to bus routes 99 and 469.  He is also pressing for an express service from Erith, Belvedere and Abbey Wood to the Jubilee Line at North Greenwich.

He has, however, given a cautious welcome to planned improvements to frequency on routes 96, 177, 229, 244, 380, 401, 472 and 602 as well as the additional morning peak service on route 51. John Austin added: “I also welcome TfL’s commitment to investigate further the need for a Sunday service on route B12 and a night service on route 229. In addition I welcome the extension of route B12 as it opens up new travel opportunities for my constituents but will ask TfL to monitor reliability on the extended service.”

“As part of the retendering exercise, TfL consulted me in December 2006 to ask my views on whether changes should be made to any of these routes. I received a number of suggestions from constituents and as a result made a submission to TfL in response to their 2006 Consultation”. (Note to editors – Copy of John Austin’s submission attached)

In addition to the routes above, route 180 is operated by East Thames Buses, an operating subsidiary of Transport for London. These routes are not subject to the normal tendering process.

John Austin said: “TfL have told me that that they will consult again later in the year with more definite proposals which take account of comments they receive at this stage. John Austin would be pleased to hear constituent’s views in writing to John Austin MP, House of Commons, London SW1A 0AA or by email to austinj@parliament.uk

“I will be meeting TfL on 5 March when I will raise my concerns about their plans for routes 99 and 469 and I will continue to press the case for a direct service from Abbey Wood, Belvedere and Erith to North Greenwich.”.
