MP’s OYSTER CARD SUCCESS

Within days of John Austin raising the issue in parliament and tabling a motion calling for a roll-out of the Oyster Card scheme to overground trains in London, the train operating companies have agreed to accept the Mayor’s offer of financial assistance and the scheme will be adopted.
John Austin, Labour MP for Erith & Thamesmead, said: “This is great news, especially for those areas without access to the Underground, and will bring both financial benefits and convenience to commuters.”
John Austin said that he would be writing to the Mayor and to the train operating companies for the south east area to be given priority.  John Austin said: “I think those areas without a tube who have benefited least so far should take priority now.  We have also seen higher than average fare increases recently and the introduction of Oyster will offset this.”
