Coventry MPs Meet Post Office Bosses
The MPs from Coventry met with the management of Royal Mail last week to discuss their proposals to move their mail centre in Coventry to Northhamptonshire.
Royal Mail gave assurances to the MPs that they would not impose compulsory redundancies. They also assured the MP’s that they were willing to engage in proper consultations with the union and would consider any alternatives that the union presented.
Royal Mail is also prepared to establish two small facilities in Coventry, but it remains to be seen how realistic this proposal is. One of the things that threaded its way through the discussions was the emphasis on the regulator and pricing and also the restrictions they felt the regulator was placing on them.
“Geoffrey Robinson MP, Bob Ainsworth MP and I raised very strong objections regarding Royal Mails current proposals and we intend to follow the progression of those proposals very carefully.” – Jim Cunningham MP
