MP IN TALKS ON WEST MIDLANDS JOBS AND REGIONAL ECONOMY
Coventry South MP Jim Cunningham will discuss the state of the city economy with business leaders on Wednesday (February 7).
Mr Cunningham will put the spotlight on Coventry jobs, skills and manufacturing when he meets regional development agency Advantage West Midlands in Westminster.
Advantage West Midlands is investing £5.6 million in the city’s infrastructure to help develop new commerce following recent setbacks in the motor car industry.
Among the topics expected to be discussed at the meeting include the state of manufacturing in the region and a progress report on the creation of an innovative Ansty Technology Park.
Mr Cunningham said: “Coventry has had a tough time in recent years but the city is overcoming that adversity.
“The investment from Advantage West Midlands is extremely welcome and will go a long way to helping provider a brighter future for Coventry.
“Manufacturing continues to be a major provider of jobs in the region, but this investment is designed to help develop new industry and new jobs.
“We’re seeing that start to happen with the development of the Ansty Technology Park which is an exciting project and one many people support.
“Another challenge we face in Coventry is ensuring businesses and employees can access and develops a range of skills.
“Again, much work is being done in this area and I’m looking forward to discussing with Advantage West Midlands how we can further develop this area in Coventry.”
