Last week in Westminster I was busy with a number of different issues, a few of which I have described below. On Monday I followed up the Trade Justice Lobby, which I attended in Coventry on the previous Saturday, with a meeting with Baroness Amos, the Secretary of State for International Development; delivering to her some of the Postcards I have been sent as part of the Trade Justice Campaign. Many MPs have, I believe, made the same visit - what a welcome for her in her new post!
Another issue which has caused many constituents to write to me is the Airport Proposal Document that was up for consultation earlier this year. Last Wednesday I spoke in the debate on Airport Services in the Midlands to support Andy King MP's opposition to an Airport at Rugby and also to put across my opposition to any possible expansion in Coventry.
As Chairman of the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Stroke I hosted a reception for the Stroke Association where many representatives from local stroke groups, stroke survivors and interested parties from the Health Services came together with Lord Skelmersdale, The Stroke Association's chairman, and a number of MPs to swap experiences and to put the issues of Stroke prevention and treatment high up on the agenda.
Later in the week, in Coventry, representatives from the Rolls Royce Retired Members organisation came to discuss pension issues with me, the discussion ranges from the current difficulties many people are having with occupational pensions and also my Bill which is up for debate in the Commons this Friday on Pensioner Trustees. That is - it would be up for debate if the House gets through the list. My Bill is number 22 on the list, so fingers crossed, please, for next Friday!
