MP JIM CUNNINGHAM MEETS FORD BOSSES ON JAGUAR
JIM Cunningham MP today pressed Ford officials on the possible sale of Jaguar.
In a meeting at the House of Commons, the Coventry South MP quizzed Ford vice president (Europe) Joe Greenwell about jobs, pensions and the future development of the car brand.
Ford has appointed investment bankers to look at selling both Jaguar and Land Rover.
Mr Cunningham said: “I was assured at the meeting that no decision has been taken about the possible sale of Jaguar, only that a review is underway.
“I, and many others, are concerned that both Jaguar and Land Rover could be bought by a private equity company which then acts as an asset stripper and cuts jobs.
“At the meeting I stressed that whatever happens in the future, protecting the company’s pension fund is hugely important, as are the matter of jobs.
“I also told Mr Greenwell how important it is to ensure the company’s facilities remain in the Midlands and he assured me that the company would act in a responsible manner no matter what they decide.
“Ford have assured me they will keep up a regular dialogue with myself, the trade unions and the other interested parties and so we will wait to see what develops over the coming weeks and months.”
