Jim Cunningham Presents Post Office Petitions to Parliament
Jim Cunningham MP (Coventry South) has today presented two petitions to the House of Commons.
Earlier in the week, union officials from the Communication Workers Union presented Mr Cunningham with two petitions collecting over 25,000 signatures between them.
The first petition is protesting at the proposed transfer of postal services from the Crown Post Office in Hertford Street to WH Smith, baring 8752 signatures. The second petition is against the planned closure of the Bishops Street Sorting Office with 17,657 signatures.
Jim Cunningham said, “As I have said on many occasions I am deeply concerned about the effects of the moves.
“Job losses and poorer standards of service will be a result should the plans go ahead for both postal services.
“As shown by the many signatures of the petition the people of Coventry truly care about the issue and I felt the House of Commons should receive this petition.
“I am still waiting for the city council to propose an alternative site for Bishops Street sorting office, which may prevent the service being relocated to Northampton”.
