COVENTRY SOUTH MP HAILS MOVES TO COMBAT ANTI SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR
JIM Cunningham today welcomed the Government’s award to Coventry to fight anti-social behaviour.Coventry is one of 40 places in the country to be named a Respect area, where police and city council pledge to help cut anti-social behaviour.
The extra resources is designed to provide more parenting classes and funding the use of other powers, such as anti-social behaviour orders.
The scheme in Coventry was launched when Solicitor General Mike O’Brien visited community workers in the Hillfields area of the city.
Coventry South MP Mr Cunningham said: “The idea behind Respect zones is to bring together the council, the police and the voluntary sector to tackle the problem of anti-social behaviour.
“I welcome this extra investment in the area and I hope Coventry City Council and the other relevant parties work together in the coming months and make full use of the resources available to them.
“I’m particularly pleased the Respect area was launched in Hillfields which is a deprived area. The community workers there are doing some great work in trying to solve the problems and deserve all these extra resources.”
All 40 Respect Areas across the country have signed up to:
* Family Intervention Projects to tackle 'neighbours from hell';
* More Parenting Classes for parents struggling with troublesome children;
* Face the People sessions where the police, local authorities and others can be accountable to their local public;
* Keep up the relentless action to tackle anti-social behaviour by using the full range of tools and powers available;
* Using the Respect Housing Standard to prevent and deal with any problems in social housing.
