Local MP is delighted by Prime Minister’s response to Children’s Hospice funding

Jeff Ennis has congratulated the Prime Minister on his quick response in terms of bridging the current funding gap for children’s hospices.

Jeff recently led a delegation to see the Prime Minister.  At the meeting the Prime Minister promised to look closely at the future funding of children’s hospices.  As a direct result of the meeting an announcement  has been made that the Department of Health are going to provide an additional £9millon for the next three years to the 39 children’s hospices in England & Wales.

Jeff Ennis said “I am absolutely delighted with the positive response we received from the Prime Minister.

The case for additional funding for children’s hospices is overwhelming and I am sure that every one who is connected with children’s hospices will be absolutely thrilled by this decision.

Currently the 39 children’s hospices only receive about 3% of their funding from the NHS, whereas adult hospices receive approximately 35%, this cannot be right.”

The announcement is the culmination of three years hard work by Jeff Ennis to increase the funding to children’s hospices.

Jeff went on to say “I would like place on record my personal thanks to one of my constituents, Mr Peter Finnegan of Bolton on Dearne who highlighted the situation to me some three years ago.

Today’s decision is very much thanks to the hard work that Peter Finnegan has put in, drawing the plight of the funding of children’s hospices to the wider public”.
