Afan Valley River Project Goes From Strength to Strength

Aberavon MP, Dr Hywel Francis, has recently visited a project making great improvements in the Afan Valley.

'Friends of the Corrwg'  is a group of people in Glyncorrwg working in partnership with Keep Wales Tidy and Communities First. The group 'adopted' a stretch of the River Corrwg and has worked to improve the river and its banks by litter picking and clearing dumped items from the river.

The aims are to improve the environment of the area, to make it more attractive for the community, to improve the water quality and to encourage more wildlife and plant life to return and stay. The group campaigned successfully for a barrier gate to prevent fly tipping and joy riding near a beautiful waterfall. An otter holt has been built and the banks of the river have been planted with shrubs and bulbs.

Over the years a lot of success has been achieved and the area has certainly improved.

Dr Francis said,

“Friends of the Corrwg are a very dedicated and enthusiastic group and have made great improvements along the river bank. I wholeheartedly congratulate them on the outstanding work they have undertaken for their community and the environment.”
