Local MP Welcomes Launch of Post Office Christmas Savings Club

Aberavon MP, Dr Hywel Francis has welcomed the recent launch of the Post Office’s new Christmas Club, which is now available at all 14,000 Post Office branches nationwide.

The Christmas Club will allow customers to plan ahead for Christmas by making pre-payments at any Post Office on a Christmas Club payment card. The funds are then locked away until 1st November, when customers will be able to use the card to buy goods and services directly at retailers or to purchase gift vouchers.

Customers will also receive a booklet of special offers worth at least £100 to redeem in selected retail partners.

Dr Francis said,

“I fully support the Post Office’s Christmas Club. Christmas can be an expensive time and the scheme will provide a valuable service in helping people to plan ahead and ease the financial pressures many people face at that time of year.”

Application packs to join the scheme can be picked up from any Post Office branch.

“And as for airports: we can't return to mediaeval ox-drawn carriages to service London's 21st century economy. A failure to support our airports would cost many tens of thousands of jobs for Londoners."

“Public transport safety is high amongst London’s business concerns, and we welcome the fact that it figures so highly in Brian Paddick’s policies, as in Boris Johnson’s.

“Having uniformed patrol on a handful of the most dangerous bus routes is a good suggestion, but we urge all candidates to accept that crime and threatening behaviour on our buses is a widespread concern and should be rolled out beyond a handful of routes.”

“London First has consistently expressed serious doubts on the effectiveness of the Western extension to the Congestion Charge and the Low Emissions Zone in tackling central London’s chronic traffic congestion problem. The recent changes to the congestion charge, making it free for thousands of small cars won’t help either.”
