MP seeks meeting with Energy Minister
The Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform has announced that planning permission has been granted to construct and operate a Biomass generating station at Port Talbot.
Aberavon MP Dr Hywel Francis said
‘The letter outlining the reasons for the Government’s decision is a long and detailed one. I shall be studying the decision carefully and will seek a meeting with the Energy Minister Mr Malcolm Wicks as a soon as possible to clarify certain important matters in relation to health and safety.
I shall be meeting local councilors and local campaigners on Friday to discuss the way forward for the local community.
Dr Francis concluded
‘One thing is certain. Public awareness of environmental issues had been raised as a result of the recent campaign and so has a sense of civic pride. I am determined that this should not be lost as a result of this decision.’
