Local MP Visits Fire Museum

Dr Hywel Francis MP has recently paid a visited to the Museum of Fire in Skewen which is run by The Welsh Area Fire Engine Restoration Society, W.A.F.E.R.S.

The Society was established in 1994 with the aim of preserving and restoring fire engines and equipment, and visitors to the museum can view a range of exhibits that illustrate the history of fire fighting, including equipment used during the Second World War and fire engines from the 1930’s through to the 1960’s.

W.AF.E.R.S. are currently in the process of seeking funding to build a new purpose-built museum to house the range of exhibits on show.

Dr Francis said,

“I was very pleased to have had the opportunity to visit the Museum of Fire recently. W.A.F.E.R.S. do valuable work in preserving and restoring their exhibits for future generations, and I congratulate them on all their hard work over the last 10 years. I wish them every success in their plans to build a new purpose-built museum building.”

The museum is open to members of the public on Wednesdays and Saturdays, 11am to 5pm, and is located at Unit 31, Lonlas Village Workshops, Skewen, Neath.
