Humfrey Malins
Humfrey demands an EU referendum for the people of Woking
Humfrey Malins MP has joined a growing campaign demanding that the Government calls a referendum on the EU Constitution. A referendum on the Treaty was promised in the Labour Party Manifesto and was one of the reasons why people voted the current Government into power. Many people believe that to go back on this promise is denying the British public the power to decide who governs them.
Following a vast amount of correspondence from people living in the constituency of Woking, Humfrey Malins has joined a campaign demanding a referendum. Humfrey said `it is disgraceful that there are plans not to hold this referendum. I will continue to do all I can for the people of Woking so that they can have their voice heard about who governs them. This is a fundamental right and one that I will continue to insist upon`.
It is irrefutable that this Treaty is the same as the old constitution; the campaign is a non-political one to let to people decide. The treaty hands over substantial additional powers from Parliament to Europe and without a referendum, the treaty would have no democratic legitimacy in the UK. It is a question of truth and honesty in politics and the defence of our sovereignty, regardless of party beliefs.
