War Veteran Visits House of Commons
Second World War veteran and Dunkirk survivor, Mr Chaudry Wali Mohammad visited the House of Commons on the 25th October and was given a personal tour by Humfrey Malins MP. Accompanied by his son, grandson and Councillor Riasat Kahn, Mr Mohammad visited the Commons during a visit to England from Pakistan.
Having fought for the British Army during the Second World war, Mr Mohammad has been revisiting the area where he was able to pray at the Woking Mosque after his landing in Dirkirk and see the town that his children call home – 4 of his children have chosen to settle in Woking and two of his sons run the successful `Galaxy Cabs` taxi firm.
Humfrey Malins MP said `He is a delightful and distinguished man. He took a particular interest in Winston Churchill and described him as the greatest leader in the world. He saw the table where Winston Churchill had dinner, Churchill’s statue outside the chamber and the spot where his body rested in Westminster Hall. He also had coffee in the seat normally occupied by Enoch Powell. Mr Mohammad declared, with a twinkle in his eye, that he was a great admirer of Margaret Thatcher`.
