Gareth Thomas reselected to fight next General Election for Labour
Gareth Thomas has been reselected to fight Harrow West for Labour at the next General Election which is expected to be between June 2005 and June 2006.
Gareth was elected as the Labour MP for Harrow West, in the biggest upset of the 1997 General Election, overturning a Conservative majority of almost 18,000. He held the seat in the 2001 General Election increasing his majority from 1200 to 6156. Gareth is now Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the department for International Development having been appointed in June this year after working for Charles Clarke MP, Secretary of State for Education for 3.5 years.
Gareth is campaigning to protect the Cancer Unit at Mount Vernon Hospital, to keep Pinner Police Station open, to continue the improvement in services at Northwick Park Hospital and to keep the Council Tax increase this year as low as possible.
Gareth grew up in Harrow West, attending Pinner Park First and Middle Schools, then Hatch End High before going to Lowlands Sixth Form College. He lives in North Harrow.
Gareth said “The next election is likely to be a very tough battle between the Conservatives and my party in this seat. The Conservatives will target this seat as the one they want to win back more than any other in North West London.”
