Answering a question from Falkirk West MP, Eric Joyce during Prime Minister’s questions yesterday (30th Oct), Tony Blair congratulated all those in Falkirk who have been involved in raising awareness of and helping to fight Breast Cancer.
Eric had taken the opportunity during National Breast Cancer Awareness week to make the Prime Minister aware of the efforts of his constituents and Falkirk Councillor Dennis Goldie in organising the Walk for the Cure on Valentine’s Day 2000 which had raised some £17,000 to help fight Breast Cancer.
The walk had been arranged by Councillor Dennis Goldie, who was at the time the Falkirk Provost, and involved some 300 people, including fellow Councillors Gerry Goldie and Linda Gow in a walk from one end of Falkirk district to the other. Councillor Dennis Goldie is currently trying to resurrect the event to make it an annual Walk for the Cure and hoping to raise thousands to help fight and find cures for many of today’s terminal illnesses.
Speaking today, Eric Joyce MP said
‘During Breast Cancer Awareness week, I thought it important to ensure that this important issue was raised in the House of Commons and no better time to do so than when the House is full for Prime Ministers questions. I also wanted to make the Prime Minister aware of the great efforts of people locally in Falkirk West in helping raise funds to find a cure for this illness and will be only too glad to do all I can to help Councillor Dennis Goldie in his efforts to make the Walk for the Cure a successful annual event in Falkirk.’
