Falkirk West MP, Eric Joyce, has welcomed yesterday’s visit (Mon 5th July) of the Westminster Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee to the Falkirk Wheel.

The committee are looking at millennium projects which had received significant lottery money and conducting an investigation in to the sustainability of the projects and how each has met its targets and objectives since creation. The committee have also recently visited the Millennium stadium in Cardiff as part of their inquiry.

Speaking today, Eric Joyce MP said

‘I am sure that the Committee found their visit informative and enjoyable. Whilst the committee chair, Rt Hon Gerald Kaufmann MP visited the Wheel site and Canal Link project in early 2001, before their completion, he and other members of the committee were very impressed by the spectacle of the Wheel and the work that has gone in to restoring the canal ways and establishing the canal link.

The Falkirk Wheel is one of the most exciting engineering icons in the whole of the UK. It has brought additional economic and work opportunities to the area and has firmly placed Falkirk on the tourist map of Scotland for years to come. I look forward to reading the committee’s report when they have completed their inquiry.’
