Falkirk West MP, Eric Joyce, is urging constituents to contact him with their views on the future of BT public phone boxes following the publication by BT of a list of local boxes provisionally marked for removal.
BT is currently carrying out a consultation exercise with a view to removing several hundred public telephone boxes from all over Scotland. Eric has already spoken with BT about the issue and is keen to get views from his constituents about the particular phone boxes marked for removal within his Falkirk West constituency. Constituents who wish to receive a copy of the list or comment on its contents should contact Eric’s parliamentary office on 01324 638919.
Some locals in the Stewart Road area have previously contacted Eric seeking his assistance in having the public phone box there removed as they are fed up with it being used for a number of purposes unrelated to telecommunications.
Speaking today, Eric Joyce MP said
‘BT say that mobile telephones have reduced the demand for public phone boxes, but it’s important that constituents have their say when it comes to any proposed closures.
In Stewart Road there are well known problems for residents related to the local telephone box but it runs at a profit due to passing trade. I want to know the views of everyone living in the area and would ask people to ring me on 01324 638919, write to me at 2 Burnfoot Lane, Falkirk FK1 5BH or email me at ericjoycemp@parliament.uk with their views.’
