Falkirk West MP presses for stiffer sentencing for Falkirk 'boy racers'

Falkirk West MP, Eric Joyce, has made representations to the Lord Advocate, Colin Boyd QC, about imposing stiffer sentences on the so called ‘boy racers' found breaching Road Traffic laws in the Falkirk Town centre area.

In a recent letter to the Lord Advocate, Eric Joyce MP has asked whether current sentencing procedure allows or could be amended to allow those found to be in breach of Road Traffic laws to be effectively banned from driving in the Falkirk town centre area.

Speaking today, Eric Joyce MP said

‘Over a number of years now local residents and people walking in Falkirk town centre in the evening have been subjected to the consequences of the dangerous driving exhibited in the area by the mindless activity of ‘boy racers' from Falkirk and other outlying areas.

I have already been in communication with the Chief Constable of Central Scotland Police about this matter and am satisfied that the actions being proposed by them will assist in clamping down on this problem. However, I believe that our criminal justice system can do more when sentencing those found guilty of dangerous activities in the area and believe that imposing a ban on them from driving in Falkirk town centre as part of their sentence will serve to deter some of these activities.'
