Major air crash in Goma
ERIC JOYCE, MP FOR FALKIRK, having witnessed impact of the major air crash in Goma, DR Congo, says that this accident shows it is vital to improve the infrastructure in this country.
Eric Joyce MP was in Goma with Judy Mallaber MP (Amber Valley) and Jeremy Corbyn MP (Islington) as a part of a Parliamentary visit to the Democratic Republic of Congo. Eric heads up the All Party Parliamentary group on the African Great Lakes region.
‘We believe that up to 79 have died and many more have been badly injured. Our thoughts are with those who have died or injured because of this tragic event and their families. This crash shows how important it is that the roads and other aspects of the infrastructure in this vast country, which is the size of Western Europe, are improved. The British Department for International Development is the second largest donor to the DR Congo, which is one of the poorest countries in the world’.
