Local MP calls for additional support for unemployed in Falkirk West
Figures recently released showing that overall unemployment in Falkirk West has dropped by 30% since May 1997, with long term unemployment falling by over 76% during the same period, have prompted Falkirk West MP, Eric Joyce, to call for additional support and assistance through the New Deal scheme to help Falkirk West's unemployed into work.
Eric raised the matter today during Scottish Questions at Westminster with Scotland Office Minister, Anne Maguire MP, calling for the Government to refocus the New Deal schemes to provide greater assistance and support to those still seeking work.
Speaking today, Eric Joyce MP said
‘The success of the various New Deal schemes is clearly evident from the dramatic reduction in unemployment, especially long-term unemployment, here in Falkirk West.
However, I believe the Government needs to refocus it's efforts through the New Deal in offering greater support and assistance to those who are still seeking work, in order to help them in to work.'
