Falkirk West MP encourages disabled ex-army personnel to claim what's owed!

Following an announcement by the Minister with responsibility for Armed Forces veteran affairs, Dr Lewis Moonie MP, in Westminster last week, Falkirk West MP and ex-army man, Eric Joyce, is encouraging all of those ex-army personnel or their widows and families to make sure that they claim back tax which has been wrongly charged on any army disability pension.

The announcement follows years of campaigning by army pensioner, Major John Perry to have the mistakes rectified and in recent years, efforts by the Ministry of Defence to identify all of those affected by the mistake.

Speaking after the announcement, Eric Joyce MP said

‘During his announcement, the Minister conceded that despite their efforts to identify all of the ex-army personnel or their widows and families who have been affected, there may still be a number of cases where this mistake has not been brought to light.

The Government have assured MP's that all tax wrongly charged would be refunded and that compensation for loss of interest on the sums wrongly taken will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

I would strongly encourage any of my constituents or their families to contact me or if they prefer, the Army Pensions Office, if they believe that they themselves, their deceased spouse or family member had been wrongly charged tax on their army disability pension at any point during the last 50 years.'
