Falkirk West MP questions PM on job creation strategy for Canal Link and Falkirk Wheel

Falkirk West MP, Eric Joyce, has been successful in having a question to the Prime Minister chosen for answer at today's question time in the House of Commons.

The question originally tabled by Mr Joyce asked the Prime Minister whether or not he intends to visit the Falkirk Wheel in Eric's Falkirk West constituency. Eric plans to follow up that question with a supplementary about the strategy and opportunities for creating jobs in the Falkirk area and in other areas along the canal link following its regeneration.

Speaking before Prime Ministers Question Time today, Eric Joyce MP said

‘I intend to highlight to the Prime Minister the job creation potential associated with the Canal Link and Wheel project and the significance of the benefits which can be brought to Falkirk's local economy as a result of the success of this project.

The Scottish Affairs Select Committee, of which I am a member, recently carried out a two day visit to Glasgow, Falkirk and Edinburgh as part of its evidence gathering for its investigation into this very matter, and I am pleased that I will now be able to formally bring this issue to the Prime Minister's attention too.

I am hopeful that the Prime Minister will consider visiting the Falkirk Wheel at some point in the coming year and am sure that the people of Falkirk West would make him very welcome.'
