Biography
Responsibilities: Environment Minister Background: Educated at Hull College of Education, B. Ed, Cert. Ed. Before entering politics, he was head of special needs at Greatfield High School, Hull. MP for Glanford and Scunthorpe since 1987 (Scunthorpe County from 1997). Opposition spokesperson on food, agriculture, rural affairs and animal welfare since 1989. Parliamentary Secretary - Minister for Fisheries and the Countryside - at the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food. June 2003 - Promoted to the position of Environment Minister Hull City Councillor from 1979-85. Member of GMB, SERA, SEA and Labour Animal Welfare Society.
