Edward Garnier
Constituency
Harborough is a largely rural constituency in south east Leicestershire. It comprises the whole of the Borough of Oadby and Wigston (between Harborough District and the City of Leicester), a mostly residential borough consisting of Oadby, Wigston Magna and South Wigston, but with several light engineering and textile-related businesses as well as most of the halls of residence and the botanical gardens belonging to nearby Leicester University. Oadby is also the home to Leicester Racecourse.
Harborough contains, as its name suggests, a large part of Harborough District. The main town in Harborough is Market Harborough, an ancient market town dating back to the reign of Henry II. It is the commercial hub of its rural hinterland noted for its fine pastureland and thus cattle and sheep farming, its beautiful countryside and many picturesque villages. It is served by the Midland Mainline train service on the London St Pancras - Nottingham line with frequent trains to and from Leicester and Market Harborough, is close to the M1, A14 and A1, as well as East Midlands and Birmingham airports. The rate of unemployment is at or about 2%, the work force is highly skilled and educated and it is an excellent place to work and live and bring up a family.
