THAMES WATER NEED TARGET PRACTICEDAVEY SLAMS WATER COMPANY
Edward Davey, Liberal Democrat MP for Kingston and Surbiton, has slammed Thames Water for failing to miss its leak reduction target for the third year running.
Thames Water, which serves most of London and some parts of Kent and Surrey, have also announced a 31% rise in pre-tax profits to £346.5m. Water regulator Ofwat have criticised the water company for charging higher prices without delivering the services they promised consumers.
Edward Davey MP said
"This is absolutely scandalous. Thames Water is losing an average of 894 million litres every single day through leaks.
"At a time of water shortages, when they have applied for drought orders across London and the South East, this is quite simply irresponsible. They are actively contributing to water shortages whilst wringing as much money as possible out of the consumer at the same time.
"I have written to the Chairman of Ofwat about this to ask him to take action. Thames Water are flushing consumers' money down the drain and they must be stopped."
