MP Welcomes Second Chance Of Justice For H-J
Edward Davey, Liberal Democrat MP for Kingston and Surbiton, has welcomed an inquest which will investigate the death of Chessington man Simon Hamilton Jewell.
Sergeant Simon Alexander Hamilton-Jewell of the Royal Military Police was killed by a mob in Al Majar Al-Kabir in Iraq along with five of his fellow soldiers on 24th June 2003. Since then, serious questions have been raised over whether their deaths were avoidable.
Edward Davey said,
“This is a real breakthrough. I know that the families of the six have been fighting long and hard for their case to be re-examined.
“Questions remain about how and why these servicemen came to be in such a perilous situation, without the means to protect themselves or even to call for help. These are questions that the MOD’s previous internal investigation unsurprisingly did not find it necessary to answer.
“This inquest is set to run for the next few weeks. Hopefully we will finally get some answers.”
