MP presents petition to ‘Save Surbiton Hospital’ to House of Commons
The “Save Surbiton Hospital” campaign has been taken to the House of Commons by Edward Davey, Liberal Democrat MP for Kingston and Surbiton. On Monday 7 November, Mr Davey presented the petition to save Surbiton Hospital, which the Surrey Comet collected, to the House of Commons.
In the presentation of the petition, Edward Davey said:
“I, too, have the privilege to present to the House of Commons a petition on behalf of more than 7,000 of my constituents in Surbiton and across the royal borough of Kingston upon Thames, collected through the good offices of the Surrey Comet.” [for full text see below]
Commenting on the petition, Edward Davey said:
“It was my honour and privilege to recently present the Surrey Comet petition to ‘Save Surbiton Hospital’ to the House of Commons. We collected more than 7,000 signatures which speaks volumes about how the royal borough of Kingston upon Thames feels about Surbiton Hospital.
“It is my hope that this petition, coupled with the debate on community hospitals just last week, will help Surbiton hospital and other community hospitals become more than just a periphery issue with Parliament as well as health ministers so that it is understood what the ends of these health services means to local communities, like ours.
“I would be remiss if I did not take this time to commend everyone from the Surrey Comet to the our great local community who have shown incredible affection and devotion to the ‘Save Surbiton Hospital’ campaign. I would call on all to continue to show the same vigour they have showed thus far because, while we have yet to reach the end of this fight, I do hope now that we have reached a turning point in our campaign.”
