Doug Naysmith MP for Bristol North-West has called a public meeting for Friday 26th November at Patchway Community Centre, Rodway Road at 7.00pm.
Doug has set up the meeting in response to a petition from residents of Hazeldene and Southsea Roads in Patchway, who have come to the end of their tether with traffic to and from the Mall Shopping Centre blocking their roads. These roads are local, residential streets not designed for the volume of traffic now using them as a “rat run”.
Doug said “I regularly receive stories of residents who are unable to get cars on or off their drives for long periods during busy times, because of the sheer volume of traffic using these roads. When the traffic eases off during the middle of the day, the speed of drivers increases, and means that there is a real danger that local people will be injured.
Doug went on to say “I am told that as many as 68 cars have been counted using these roads in this way between 4.30pm and 4.45 pm on a weekday, and on one occasion 170 cars were counted between 5.30pm and 6.30pm. With the Christmas shopping experience now with us, the problem can only get worse.”
