Doug Naysmith, MP for Bristol North West, today expressed support for people with dementia and their carers in the run up to Alzheimer's Awareness Week® , 3-9 July 2005.
The aim of the Alzheimer's Society campaign is to ask people to 'think again’ about who is affected by dementia, particularly highlighting the impact on young people, as both sufferers and carers.
Dr Naysmith said,
'I welcome the Alzheimer's Society promotion of an Awareness Week particularly as too often we think of dementia as affecting only older people. It is important to remember that dementia can affect anyone at any age.'
More than 600 people living in Bristol North West have dementia and more than three times that number are affected by the consequences.
Neil Hunt, Chief Executive of the Alzheimer's Society said,
'I’m delighted that Doug Naysmith is supporting Alzheimer's Awareness Week. He knows how important it is to think again about how we can support younger people with dementia and their families, and that is why we need this awareness week.’
