    Foster Welcomes Kremlin Kyoto Call

Bath’s MP, Don Foster has welcomed the news that Russia has taken steps towards ratifying the Kyoto Protocol on climate change.

The success of the Kyoto Treaty has depended on Russian approval ever since the USA pulled out three years ago.

    Commenting, Don said,

“Given Bath’s excellent track record on environmental campaigning I’m sure very many local people we be as delighted as I am by this news – and it’s not a moment too soon!

“The World desperately needs the measures in the protocol to be turned into action.

“I hope this will put further pressure on the world’s biggest polluters - the United States, to take their environmental responsibilities seriously and to rejoin the Treaty.”

The United States has less than 5% of the world’s population, yet produces nearly a quarter of all CO2 emissions, more than any other country.

“It’s unfortunate that Tony Blair seems unable to use his so-called ‘special relationship’ with George W Bush when the world really needs it.”
